Alfa Romeo vs. Maserati performance is a recurring question at our dealership. The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Maserati Ghibli, in particular, are two formidable vehicles in the luxury sedan segment. Between the two, which one edges out on top?

Performance at a Glance

Just by examining what’s under the hood, it’s clear the Alfa Romeo Giulia holds a distinct advantage in the performance department.

This model offers an All-Aluminum Direct Injection 2.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The output comes to 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

The Maserati Ghibli is equipped with a turbocharged V6 engine, as well. While a robust engine in its own right, it has a significantly lower output with 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Both vehicles utilize a rear-wheel-drive platform. Both also require premium unleaded fuel.

It should be noted that the Alfa Romeo Giulia is also lighter with a base weight of 3,521 pounds, versus 3990 pounds in the Maserati Ghibli. The lighter weight combined with a more powerful engine gives the Alfa Romeo Giulia a clear advantage in performance.

Comfort and Amenities

The Alfa Romeo Giulia also holds an advantage in the comfort department.

Both vehicles are five-seaters, though the Alfa Romeo Giulia provides more legroom with 42.4-inches in the front and 35.1-inches in the rear. The Maserati Ghibli has slightly less legroom at 37.7-inches and 33.2-inches respectively.

The Alfa Romeo has a few additional perks that make it a standout, including a three-setting driver seat memory, versus a two-setting memory for the Maserati Ghibli. The former also has both front and rear power windows, whereas the latter just has power windows for the front.
